Celebrities – Upcoming star of The Dark Knight and Oscar nominee Heath Ledger has passed away Tuesday afternoon.
I am shocked, sure, but also angry. This isn't a plane crash or heart attack. He willfully made the choice to get involved in drugs (or if it's a suicide, he chose that action.) I feel bad for his family.
It's like when someone drinks and drives, and gets killed by driving into a tree. It isn't a tragedy; it's the expected results from utterly stupid behavior, and I am only relieved that the person didn't kill other drivers on the road. We had a case in my home state just recently -- a teenager driving drunk got killed. He was 17. He had already been involved in a drinking and driving accident once. And yet his parents bought him a muscle car. I blame him and them.
I look forward to seeing The Dark Knight, but it appears (given the available evidence) that he made some very stupid choices and brought about a not-so-surprising result. I am shocked and angry.
No, it wasn't a plane crash or heart attack, but it it was tragic just the same. He leaves behind a small child and that is also tragic. I am familiar with neither his work or his personal life, and I assume that you have the same information about his death that we all have. The article said that there were OTC meds found in his room--could it be it was an accident, maybe an allergic reaction? Things like that have happened. Maybe we should all just wait and see what the autopsy has to say before we start talking about the "stupid choices" people have made. Don't get me wrong, I'm totally with you on cases like the one you described in your post. Just my opinion.
Of course we all have to wait for an autopsy, I agree. I stated that my opinion was based on the available evidence, which is still being accumulated.
However, I stand by my words that if he was doing drugs, I feel no sympathy. We'll have to wait and see. An allegeric reaction would be a terrible tragedy indeed.
As I stated above, if it turns out that it was an accident, then that would be a tragedy. I do not feel sympathy for people who do things to themselves however. I do judge that. There are people in my own family who have done stupid things, and I do not excuse that. An accident is one thing. A deliberate choice to engage in something stupid is different.
The autopsy is pending. Differ with me if you like, but I stand by my words if it turns out if was an overdose.
Just another Hollywood junkie and fine upstanding example to the youth of the nation. Good riddance, hope the rest of them hurry up and OD.
Now there's one mean-minded comment. Feel good, rwnae?
I recall you wishing, in another comment some time ago, that global warming would usher in an ocean rise which would inundate the entire West Coast, Hollywood in particular.
You really are "...a fine upstanding example to the youth of the nation."
Meh. I feel just as bad for people who live their lives with that big of a chip on their shoulders.
I used to be that judgmental, then I realized that I have flaws too-big ones-and thats part of being human. And I was wasting my energy on being nasty as opposed to making a positive difference in the world.
It seems that compassion is a rarity these days and that makes me genuinely sad.

Whoa, what happened? If it wasn't a crime then he committed suicide or OD'd when he has a 2 year old daughter? How sad.
They're saying OD at this point. Supposedly his cleaning lady found his body and a bunch of pills.
AP is saying it looks drug related. This really is a shame. Loved the actor, and was really looking forward to him as the Joker in Batman.. Now its just going to be depressing watching it this spring.
Yes, great actor. I'm pretty shocked. I, too, was very excited about seeing him play Joker.
Reports are coming out that he was found dead in Mary-Kate Olsens Apartment. And that it looks like it was Suicide now.

Very sad, he was very talented.
A suicide is always sad! But WAY too young at 28.
SP, Hollywood is merciless,
That's what happens in certain cases when you have too much too soon.
Just read the article... it seems to have been updated to say that, in fact, it wasn't the apartment of Mary Kate Olsen.
It would have been sad if he had settled for one of the skinny Olsen twins.
