My sister, at the age of 10 or 11, had white mice she keeped in a glass terrarium and decided to give them some sun also. Except she didn't take the lid off. Several hours later she found them brown and all shriveled up. She's a murder, too. I had a dog when I was in grade school that would follow me half way to school most mornings and got hit by a car and died. I'm a murderer, too. These incidences happen when we were kids and didn't know any better.

I heard about how the Chinese prepare turtles for soup. It sounded so gruesome that when I SAW turtles at the Chinese market I use to frequent a lot, I bought one in the hopes of rescuing it and having it as a pet. I used my grandmother's fingernail polish to put my name and address on it's shell so it could possibly be returned IF it wandered off from my property, which it did, and, was returned. Well, it was a "red-eared" slider NOT a tortois. A tortois can live off of insects, slugs, and what not. A red-eard slider needs a pond to live in, I later learned. Months later, I came upon my red-eared slider turtle. It was very light and making clicking sounds. I felt like a total idiot. I saved it from a grueome death in a Chinese kitchen, but, unintentionally starved it to death, slowly.

I didn't know better and killed a pet when I was young. I still think about it to this day.

Perhaps you see it that way , however speaking about these things that for the most part were traumatic to these people as childern brings a feeling of bonding , closness and closure . It is important for us [ as humans ] to have this commonality with one another . Also it could serve as a lesson for your child in showing compassion on anothers perspective . Thank you for your time .
