I could not stand this woman. She and her ilk spread so many lies against gays and lesbians in their reign as televangelists. However, I am slow to speak ill of the dead. Rest in peace, Tammie. At least you were not Jerry Falwell.

Big money corrupts, period. Look at Jack Whittaker, who won that ginormous Powerball jackpot in West Virginia - it was a curse to him... it changed him and cost him a granddaughter.
Tammy knew that leaving their successful childrens' ministry for an entire network and resort was a huge mistake, but while she was in the thick of it, mostly urged bi Jim, she fell into the big money corruption trap. They had millions, but Tammy had no idea that Jim and partners were stealing from others like that, nor did she realize that Jessica Hahn was stealing her husband. She was just too naive to all the big money lifestyle and how it changed all those she knew, including herself. She later repented/apologized profusely for her lust of the material world and said she was just overcome - she has lived quite humbly ever since.
Big money changes almost everyone, unless they are very grounded materialistically. Anyone who likes elegance, glamour and extravagance is prone to material lust.

Tammy was never like that... in fact, she EMBRACED gays, lesbians, bisexuals and the like, saying they were ALL God's children. I remember Jim & Tammy from way back in the 60s... they were neighbors just down the street from us in Sterling Point in the Churchland area of Portsmouth. My sister was on their show when she was like 5 years old... "The Jim & Tammy Show" was HUGE and groundbreaking back then - they had enormous ratings - they had goody bags they gave audience members he and especially Tammy were wonderful with puppets - anyone remember Susie Moppet? BOTH had a great way with kids. When we moved out here to Phoenix in '70, the show wasn't on here - in fact, they'd never heard of it, so we brought it to the program mgr's attention and got a thank-you note... within a few months, it was in regular daily programming. They made a mistake leaving their childrens' ministry for the big televangelist bucks - she even admitted that later.
God bless and thanks, Tammy

All that we leave behind is what we do in our lives and her legacy is not something that made mankind any better but showed how greedy and mean we can be. With that being said where does the idea of not speaking ill of the dead come from? Should we not admit when people have had a negative effect on society and be honest about what they have done.

That was touching, david...very touching...
What's hilarious is your bashing of Christians and Christian beliefs, but in the same breath you mentioned her bashing of Gays and lesbians..Sounds like you're the bigger bigot and hate-monger...
"I am slow to speak ill of the dead..."
Funny, you just did.

I think you have gotten away from the topic: A Christian woman has passed away, her wilderness journey through this life time is no greater a sin, then when Israel sinned against
God, Yahweh! The Lord is the giver and taker of life, Our Salvation is by the Grace of God and not the works of men. Jim and Tammy Baker television ministry gave me hope when I was in distress, a single mother with five children living in the project and on welfare. The Word of God is the Word of God, the preacher delivered the message; their life experience as human beings is nothing less than what man is by nature. Let God be their judge less you be judged.

When was the last time you stoned someone or saw someone stoned because they disobeyed this or that in the Bible? You have to think for yourself - even with religion. Your same narrow-minded mentality is the same as the extremist of Islam. *I'm not talking about the bomb killing Islamists, but the ones that believe that women must cover themselves because men can't control their sexual urges...your type of thinking and theirs is all from the same vein of thought. As a religious and spiritual man - studied in the Bible and Islam - we have destroyed the true teaching of faith. *Food for thought: when was the last time you read one of the missing scrolls that are being found and have been found? What do you know of the vast re-writes of the Bible? And do you know the difficulty of translating foreign text? It's difficult enough with modern languages. These are questions that you need to ask yourself for the New Testament states, "now that you know of me you have no excuse."

So if God doesn't create homosexuals, and it is a choice... that means we are all born bi-sexual?
Speak for yourself..........

For those of you writing ill of Tammy Fay Messner, do you realize the good works she did after the scandal and her work in the last ten years. She really did an about face and changed her life. We all need to do our research before we point fingers at anyone - that is only fair. *Disclaimer: I am not a fan or enemy of Mrs. Messner, but I always go with the side of truth and facts. Mrs. Messner spoke and supported gays and a slew of other issues that the right do not support.

David,
I very rarely disagree with you, but we will have to respectfully agree to disagree on Tammy Faye Messner.
I do agree that she and her ex-husband did great damage to the gay community during the 700 Club/PTL years. But I also acknowledge that she tried to atone for that damage...especially in the last decade or so of her life.
That is not to say that I agree with her brand of evangelism...I do not. However, I DO believe that most spiritually aware people do evolve in their understanding of all people. And believe her evolution continued until the day she died.
Respectfully yours,
Scott

Tammy Faye has also been known as one of the few evangelical Christians who had the support of the gay community. She was one of the first televangelists to reach out to those with AIDS when it was a little-known and much-feared disease.
Of course, she did have some in the community who favored her. Again, may she rest in peace and condolences to her family.

Don't misunderstand Tammy Faye.
Her only crime was she wanted to live a showbiz lifestyle and have a glamorous tv star while being an OLD SCHOOL (not hateful) Christian.
d- Did you know she was the only Public Christian to hug a gay man on TV, a gay man WITH AIDS?
Evilfu*k Pat Robertson stole 700 club from Jim and Tammy and then evilfu*k #2 Jerry Falwell stole their (the first ever) Christian broadcast satellite.
PTL Club was like a light hearted Christian Tonight Show.
Even Jim was surprised at Neocon General Scowcroft when Jim asked, "So General Scowcroft, if there's a nuclear war-
"Not IF there's a nuclear war, retorts Scowcroft with Thanatos in his eyes, "WHEN we have a nuclear war."
THOSE are the types of horrible New Christians that edged self-starting, fun and warm-hearted, naive country bumpkin with stars in their eyes, Jim and Tammy Faye.

I watched hundreds of hours of both Jim and Tammy's PTL Club AND Pat Robertson's 700 Club and PTL was not evil. Pat Robertson IS VERY evil.
On Surreal world, even pornstar Ron Jeremy obviously liked her.
I an a rabid atheist but may I say God Bless Tammy Faye in her heaven.

Crespi, as so often happens here, you have provided false information.
Pat Robertson DID NOT steal 700 club from the Bakkers. Robertson was there first. He had inherited a fortune from his father, the late Sen. A. Willis Robertson, and built his first studio and broadcast station on farmland off Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach. Looking for acceptable Christian programming, Robertson hired the Bakkers to put on an afterschool program for children. "The Jim and Tammy Show" was very well done and quite successful for the fledgling station. But Robertson was already filling the evening hours with his "700 Club." Blocked from pursuing their own ambitions in Virginia, the Bakkers found backers who financed their move to Charlotte and PTL was born.
You have every right to express your dislike for Robertson here, but you do this forum (and public discussion, generally) no service by presenting falsehoods as "fact."
You need to grow up.

Yeah, I definitely didn't agree with her or her ex-husband .. but given that, she should still RIP. It is surprising that King would hold the info quiet for so long ... and that there hadn't been some other announcement.

Ding-dong the witch is dead
Which old witch? The wicked witch
Ding-dong the wicked witch is dead
Wake up you sleepyhead
Rub your eyes, get out of bed
Wake up the wicked witch is dead
She's gone where the goblins go
Below - below - below
Yo-ho, let's open up and sing and ring the bells out
Ding Dong' the merry-oh, sing it high, sing it low
Let them know the Wicked Witch is dead

Zen, I gotta tell ya, I gave you a positive vote only cause I like the Wizard of Oz. However, I regret that decision. Your comment is tasteless in this case. Had you reserved it for Leona Helmsley, that would have been funny.

how totally disrespectful... there was nothing 'witchy' or evil about this woman... and in her hour of death, she was still praying for poor worthless souls such as yourelf. did you even SEE that inteview? it was one of them most brave things I have witnessed... she forsook her dignity to share her joy of the Lord and to say thanks to all her fans. you'd be whimpering all the way, I'd bet... not sure where you would be going, but if this post is any indication, you might want to re-examine your life.

"You without sin, cast the first stone."
TFB was misguided, a little silly, but that's a personal opinion. What she really was is a human being, and as such she deserves some mercy, some dignity, if only for the sake of those who loved her.

I am so glad she is free from that horror now. This brings back painful memories of the slow, painful deaths of my mother and father from cancer. I would never wish that fate on anybody.

no Christian is perfect..and I disagreed with her on a few issues..However, to sum her up is that..only reinforces your own views about God and the Savior. If you are a tree hugging liberal who supports getting rid of the gas engine and meat...I am sure I could point out the flaws in your lifestyle with regard to that.

Invoking a tree hugging liberal shows were your bias is at. How in the hell can you associate that phrase with the comment "This woman was a mixed up mess. Christ, talk about a vain, painted up ol' pig."? He might be an insensitive jerk but a tree hugging liberal? You go to far with your assumptions.

I never was a fan, not religious and I lean way left but seeing her the other night on King was painful. Had she been a pet, we would have put her to sleep but she made her point to the very end and I hope that where ever she is, the pain is over. Might I also say to Zenshadow, "you my friend are an a@@hole." If you ever see a post of mine that you feel inclined to post an agreement to or give me a positive rating, do me a favor and stay off of my side!

Wow, I just saw her on TV last week. She already looked dead and now this confirms it.
Let's hope there is a hell and a balcony in heaven where all of the thousands of gullible, trusting souls who were swindled by Jim and Tammy Baker can go and stand to watch this woman burn and scream in the fires of hell.
Whoops, back to reality. Tammy, all 85 pounds of her, is just going to slowly rot and turn into disassembled protein.
Good riddance and if you happen to be Presbyterian, please don't come back any time soon.
Like Jim and Tammy Faye always said, "Praise the Lord and Pass the Loot. The PTL Club is here to help you with your burdens"

tammy faye had on the ptl show a gay man with AIDS. this outraged her fans, her network and even her husband. she did this out of compassion. she addressed a crisis even president reagan wouldn't touch. having watched the documentary "the eyes of tammy faye" many years ago, i saw a different side to this woman. then on "the surreal life" in 2004 i got to see what true christianity is supposed to be about. she had the ability to love unconditionaly and excersized this ability freely. from porn stars to gays dying of "god's curse". this is her legacy. there could be no more appropriate time to herald such behavior.

Tammy Faye I do remember your eyelashes!! How could we forget. I saw the interview on Larry King the other night, poor lady. I think down deep she was a truly good person and a caring person. Can't say as much for Jim, glad Tammy was able to go on with her life and meet a nice person to share it with.
Brave person to do what she did, forgive and forget people quit making such rude remarks.
