A Baldwin Brother's Journey to Jesus »
Posted by: Aidenag 1 year, 10 months agoFor most of his career, Stephen Baldwin, the youngest of Hollywood's four Baldwin brothers, cultivated a reputation as a bad boy, both on screen and off. In a new book, "The Unusual Suspect," he writes about "snorting enough cocaine to throw the entire population of a small South American country into anaphylactic shock."

Nov. 27, 2006, 9:13 a.m.From the article:
"Though the film was universally jeered by critics, the DVD has become a cult hit with young people. And since the movie has spurred people to join his church, Baldwin says, that must mean "Biodome" is part of God's plan."
Joining a church doesn't make a person a Christian anymore than driving into a garage makes them a car.
I doubt his conclusions are anything more than seed sown in shallow ground. Where is the power of the Cross?

Nov. 27, 2006, 3:21 p.m."Write a best seller that stays on the best seller list for 2 thousand years and then we may listen to your opinion. lol."
I think you lost me there. If I write a best seller that stays for 2 thousands years you and everyone else here will be dead and we won't ever hear any opinion.
confusing to say the least

Nov. 27, 2006, 9:32 a.m.Jesus is coming? Oh please, he was supposed to come by the end of Paul's generation and yet they continue to expand that timetable. Nearly 2000 years and nothing. The milleniums come and go and nothing. And the natural disasters Baldwin points to have been going on since the beginning of time. So what is new? Nothing. It was always within Baldwin to defeat these addictions, he really needed to only have faith in himself. same with any addict. That's the message he should be sending.
Your best bet is to make the most of the life you are currently leading and not count on there being anything beyond that. Fine to have faith but try to find comfort in reality as well. Know that whatever Being created you can do as it will with you but that it has given you free will to live as you choose today.

InChrist
Nov. 27, 2006, 9:57 a.m.How do you know that is your best bet? I can tell you living for Christ is the best thing I ever done and my life would not have changed if it were not for my faith in Christ. Most people have faith in themselves and end up as addicts. They think, I don't have a problem or I can handle it. Faith in Christ has transformed lives for roughly 2000 years now. You might think you know the best bet but the gospel of Jesus Christ carries more weight than any one man's opinion.

Nov. 27, 2006, 9:42 a.m.The lines are now clearly drawn. One one side, armed with his newfound "faith," the noted theologian Stephen Baldwin holds forth, offering a shortcut to salvation. On the other side, certain that his drugs and social excesses have revealed a new truth, stands Elton John, who assures us that all churches are harmful and should be banned.
Does anyone really expect that anything useful will emerge from their conflict?

Nov. 27, 2006, 9:53 a.m.I was flipping through channels the other day and saw him on some televangelist show with his new wife, talking about how good it was to do everything for the kingdom. Something was very odd about the whole thing. Then again, I've always thought that church on TV is an odd thing as it cuts out the entire point of church, the gathering together and fellowshipping; something about TV church plus former movie star now converted to Christianity = vision of Jesus overturning the money tables at Temple.

"God has called me to go and make disciples of the youth of America. That is what I am going to try to do, and if you try to stop me I am going to break your face."

I see he still hasn't gotten the message.

PINTO
Nov. 27, 2006, 10:19 a.m.Hes a complete wack job......
All he did was switch from unhealthy dependence to another. His Christian fanatacism is nearly as unhealthy. Ive seen interviews with him and the things he says are completely rediculous. He makes it known to all that he is completely closed minded to the highest degree and if you dont agree with him then you arent worth the gum on the bottom of his shoes..........yeah, thats very Christian of him.

Nov. 27, 2006, 11:09 a.m.Faith in Christ is much more healthy than snorting mounds of cocaine. Christ said we should humble ourselves as little children, so thinking you are better than someone because of your faith is wrong. I haven't gotten that perception from Baldwin but perhaps you are right. Do you have a particular instance you are referring too?

Nov. 27, 2006, 11:41 a.m.I think you are right Pinto....God is not boastful...he is just looking for the limelight.
He will ratchet up the hate as he becomes more popular. All visible "Christian Ministers" survive on hate.

Nov. 27, 2006, 11:40 a.m.This creep would be much more believable if he didnt have to be Mr Showboat and just do his good works and not Crave the attention for it.
And keep your Damn Religion outa my Government!!!!!!!!

InChrist
Nov. 27, 2006, 12:16 p.m.Christianity has had a tremendous influence in our government. Every President has took his oath to office with hand placed on the Bible. Congress still opens with prayer by a Christian minister. Perhaps its not just "your" government. Christianity has had a major impact on the development of our country and government. We the people need no particular religion to make decisions for our country however, the influence of Christianity can not be denied or ignored based off the emotional insecurity of a select few. The history and reality prove otherwise. Lets keep the government our government! :)

Nov. 27, 2006, 4:06 p.m.froggy57: "***Well, whether you agree with him or not, you have to admit that following Jesus is certainly preferable to snorting enough coke to anesthetize a small country."
Hm? Maybe so. But what if they go fanatic with going beyond just following? Then we have cause to be concerned. I'm not saying Mr. Baldwin is this case. This was just a worse case senario thingie. As it's well known, we've had (have) some cult activities on the fringe of Christ's teachings here in the USA.
Do the members here slamming religion do it in fear? I think most just enjoy slingin' mud or to see how much they can stir people up. Pile on the rabbit...the rabbit.

Nov. 27, 2006, 6:16 p.m."The ones who slam him are doing so from fear driven positions. They are living a life they fear will result in exclusion from the 12 virgins, or heaven, or what ever. And so they lash out at religion. Maybe if they attack it loud enough and long enough, it will go away.
They fear religion. Otherwise, why all the energy devoted to attacking it? "
And yes I am afraid of religion (not faith). I am afraid they might take away the three thing we as a nation assume. Thet are "life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness".

Stay2006
Nov. 27, 2006, 11:54 a.m.In my opinion I think some are missing the point here. I am happy for Mr. Baldwin. I am joyous that he has found something in his life that has become a positive and healthy influence. Why would anyone not want to wish him well? He has chosen Christ as his healer. And appearantly it has worked for him. Lets not be so judgemental. What works for one person does not always work for another. If Mr. Baldwin was changed for the better by Scientology, I would be happy for him as well. Even though I dont agree with the teachings.
-

vor
Nov. 27, 2006, 1:31 p.m.Yet if he found Scientology and began touring the country proselytizing the faith I would have to explain to those to whom he spoke that there are other choices. That Scientology is illogical and that they need to examine its beginnings and beliefs. That's all we ever ask of Christians. If you still have faith after a thorough fair minded examination, great. However if you see inherent contradiction in the guidebook maybe you need to keep asking questions. What if man wrote the Bible, does that make it an invalid document? No. However does this then lend credence to the idea this should not be a book that you should base your life choices upon? Yes, as you are then allowing man to subjugate man.
