Nov. 9, 2006, 12:44 p.m.This man was a beauty. He introduced me to the world. My parents had me watching 60 Minutes from the moment I could sit upright and there was Ed, telling me the truth every week. My most lasting memory of his broadcasts was just after 9/11. A woman had been searching with her sisters for her missing husband. She couldn't accept that he was dead. She and her sisters searched every hospital and morgue. Nothing. But she didn't give up hope. When Ed interviewed her she gave her poignant, desperate message of hope and then said, her voice breaking: "I can't live without him, Ed. Please... Please help me. Please..." and in the first moment of it's kind that I witnessed, Ed moved out of his interviewer's chair and took the woman into his arms. On camera. In the old days of TV news that would have been unthinkinable. And with that one, beautiful gesture, Mr. Bradley showed me that journalism IS NOT about detachment. My sincerest condolences go out to his family. He is irreplaceable.

Nov. 9, 2006, 1 p.m.Honestly, one of the best journalists around. Really professional in all his dealings. Plus, like Alexia, I got the feeling he really cared about the people involved in his stories. A sad day.

I'm heartbroken.
He was professional enough to be called "old school" but his personality and unique approach made his reporting timeless.

Nov. 9, 2006, 1:05 p.m.Dan Rather used to say his favorite memory of Bradley was during Bradley's tenure as CBS correspondent in France. Whenever Rather saw Bradley on Bradley's motorcycle, there was a different beautiful woman riding pillion. Rest in peace, Ed Bradley.

Nov. 9, 2006, 1:37 p.m.The thing I always liked about Ed was that he seemed to genuinely love his work.Even the stories that were hard to present were handled with respect.I salute the man for all his accomplishments and having a ball doing it.

Nov. 9, 2006, 1:38 p.m.His interview(s) with Tiger Woods still stands as one of the greatest sports interviews I've ever seen.
Then there was his comments on Michael Jackson...
"Michael lives in a world... I think his main residence is aptly named: Neverland. It's a fantasy world. I mean, I'm sitting outside waiting for this interview that never happened. I hear this noise and I look over my left shoulder and it's an elephant."
Easy to relate to. Great sense of humor. Smile like a train wreck.
How could you not help but love the guy.

Nov. 9, 2006, 1:59 p.m.Yes, he was about as good as they got and as a very positive role model for kids who otherwise would have fallen into that frightful abyss of continued poverty, gangs and drugs. For his contribution, he is to be commended. So, why do I remember something else about him?
60 Minutes, January 1989, Bradley hosted a segment on the apple farmers in the Pacific Northwest. He reported that the chemical, ALAR (daminozide), was not only an insecticide, but a "proven" carcinogen, as well.
First, it is a growth regulator (not bug killer) sprayed on the bloom (not the fruit) and, second, the cancer claims were based on a skewed and ultimately discredited "study". As a citrus farmer, I was appalled that he turned the apple industry into applesauce, and then positively refused to apologize for his egregious mistake to the farmers afterward. The growers were financially ruined that year.
Kudos to him otherwise and prayers to his family, anyway--but I still remember.

Nov. 9, 2006, 2:27 p.m.One of the loves that I shared with Ed was a love of jazz. He really got it. I reember when he profiled Miles Davis. Unlikely that Davis would have done the interview with any other member of the 60 minutes team.

Nov. 9, 2006, 2:29 p.m.He will be missed. He add a very special energy to 60 minutes. I grew up watching his reports on CBS and Dan Rather's. Rest in Peace Ed, and may your contribution to NEW reporting be remembered by future generations of journalists.

Nov. 9, 2006, 2:53 p.m.Ed was a cool codger. Compared to Andy Looney and Damn Rather, Ed was total iceberg. Probably hangin' with Miles right now.
